The final days of Career Matters @ MAPP were nothing short of transformative for our students! Ellen L. Leggett, Ed.D., the former MAPP director who took the program to new heights under her leadership, led a resume workshop that surpassed all expectations. In collaboration with Urmila Patil, PhD., she provided some seriously targeted insights tailor-made for the MAPP students!๐ These insights were the little gems of wisdom that shone a light on exactly how MAPPers can showcase their expertise from the program in the most unique and captivating ways! ๐ฑ Our week concluded on a high with David Ragni, Manager, UX Research at Workday, who imparted some invaluable insights into the ever-evolving landscape of the UX industry. David left us all with a deeper understanding of what it takes to thrive as UX professionals and the richness of diverse perspectives in the UX field. The cherry on the cake? His insights as a hiring manager on what distinguishes a great candidate from a good one. Truly a thought-provoking session that will undoubtedly inform our professional journeys moving forward. โญ #CareerMatters #MAPPSuccess #IndustryInsights

If the pandemic taught me anything, it's that we all need a little connection in our lives. We get isolated--In our lives...In our roles...In our job search...So let's make it easier to connect with others!Last summer, #CSOfficeHours started Job Search Cohorts for CS Leaders and CSMs. These are small, self-organized accountability groups of 4-6 people to share ideas & resources, practice interviewing, & keep each other's spirits up.And it has been making a difference! But that need for connection doesn't stop when the job search does. How you start your 30-60-90 days, really the first 6 months, that's critical. And having folks as a sounding board during this time can help relieve the stress. But what about when you're in the job, 6+ months? Wouldn't it be nice to have a sounding board then too?๐ฅ INTRODUCING๐ ๐๐จ๐ฅ๐ฅ๐๐๐จ๐ซ๐๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง ๐๐ซ๐จ๐ฎ๐ฉ๐ฌ for ๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐ซ๐ฌ and for ๐๐๐๐ฌ! Wow! Is it officially summertime already?!?! Hard to believe it's already time for my offspring to come home from college for the Summer! Time is flying and nearly half of 2023 is behind us - checking in with you. Whether your org does official mid-year reviews or not, this is the perfect time for reflecting on the yearโs goals and recalibrating plans if needed. As you prep to chat with your team, here are three tips for giving fair and effective mid-year feedback as a manager:1. Allocate enough time per employee and try not to batch. Give yourself the mental spaceโin writing and in deliveringโto give each person thoughtful and equitable feedback.2. Focus on job performance and evaluate across the whole review period. Cut blanket statements and use specific examples. Look at the whole year thus far to avoid recency bias.3. Balance positive and growth feedback to avoid surprises. Make sure folks are aware of their growth areas now, so they donโt reach end of year without having an opportunity to improve.I am curious, anything youโd add to the list?#TalentManagement#EmployeeEngagement#tmyktmyg #PerformanceReviews #Textio #recruitingSHEro #bethechange

We love seeing wins from people in our awesome community, such as Erin from from Toronto, who got hired as a Senior Product Designer at a healthcare company ๐ Erin had been applying for jobs for 7 months without getting interviews and offers before joining Career Strategy Lab. Here's what she said about her experience ..."The 7 months before I joined CSL were lonely, and my confidence was low after getting some traction here and there but never getting farther along with multiple companies. I joined so I could learn and rebuild assets like my CV and LinkedIn profile and activity. Ultimately, the critiques and the mindset calls convinced me to take the jump and join. I only wish I had taken that jump sooner! Everything that the amazing CSL people said was true: trust in your experience and your abilities, trust the process, and lean on them wherever you need them." ๐ค โก๏ธ Feel like you're in Erin's shoes โapplying for roles, not getting interviews, and unsure how to break this cycle? Here are 3 ways we can help: 1) Check out everything you get in our 3-month UX career coaching program: https://lnkd.in/gZXZp6g22) Get our UX career coaching syllabus: https://lnkd.in/g6dJfYgn3) Or if you prefer to talk to a human to ask questions about Career Strategy Lab, send us a DM here on LinkedIn or book a call here: https://lnkd.in/gSAV7QEV#uxdesign #uxresearch #productstrategy #uxcontent #uxwriting

Love seeing the process and growth that people experience inside Career Strategy Lab ๐ Advancing your career is so much more than just external stuff like redoing a resume or portfolio, reaching out to people on LinkedIn etc. Sidenote, SO much growth comes from within and that's when we see things really shift for people โthey start getting more interviews, moving further along in the interview process, and finally get offers for roles they actually want!PS: Have questions about Career Strategy Lab (the UX career coaching program I run that's *not* a boot camp) ... then check out the post below or send me a DM here on LinkedIn.)

Took a masterclass today through the Career Strategy Lab; I left with two key applications, and one reservation.โ Focus on quality connections. I'd rather have connections who are willing to answer questions or pass along a thoughtful recommendation. While I'm not one to accept every connection request that comes my way, I still find myself chasing the numbers now and then. โ You can't be everything to everyone. Sell my particular strengths. I love complexity and communication and diagrams that clarify everything across disciplines; I will never find as much delight in being a JavaScript master. (Partly because I do not plan to JavaScript at all. I know my limits ๐)๐ค A lot of language around "selling" one's "value." This is product language, and par for the presentation course. But it does give me pause that we are not only ~becoming our productivity~ in the workplace, we are now ~becoming our product~ in the marketplace. How healthy is it to think of ourselves in objective terms, to box ourselves into pieces of capital? Either way, an hour thoughtfully spent. Thanks to the CSL team for assembling these resources! #uxcareer #productivity #selfworth

I practice reflecting and measuring the ROI after attending events and encourage all leaders to do the same.Today, I was privileged to participate alongside global talent leaders on Day 1 of the Talent Connect Show. This event prompted deep contemplation about the future of work in the age of AI. Thank you, LinkedIn, for offering this exceptional platform for learning, networking, and mutual inspiration. In our ever-competitive job market, where talents are everywhere but opportunities are not, here's a message for jobseekers:When you decide to join an organization, you're not merely taking on a job or project but embarking on a meaningful journey. It's essential to ask yourself:-Can I envision my career development within this organization?-How does the organization handle onboarding for new hires?-Leveraging the power of word-of-mouth, consider reaching out to recent hires or those with 1โ2 years of experience to gain authentic insights into their journey and how the organization fosters continuous career development.Today's summit featured inspiring speakers, including Maud Alvarez-Pereyre, CPO from LVMH Group; Donna Morris, the EVP, and CPO from Walmart; Stacey A. Gordon, MBA, an Executive Speaker and DEI Strategist at Rework Work.In the presence of over 1500 talented leaders, both in New York and virtual, collectively representing an impressive $8 billion in revenue across various industries, I firmly believe that we should strive to give more, foster greater humanity and transparency, and express gratitude for the meaningful work we do. After all, we are the architects of lives and the shapers of future generations.I can't wait for Day 2 of the show!#TalentConnect #PeopleExperience #LinkedInevents #careergrowth #careerdevelopment #GlobalTalentAcquisition #futurework #jobseekers #candidates #startuptalentacquisition #LinkedIn #workculture #layoffs2023 #empowerment #DEI #learninganddevelopment #techlayoffs #startuptalents #leadership #teambuilding #organizationalleadership #talents #skills #wlb #opportunities #GenZ #empathy #diversityandinclusion

Cultivating a strong personal brand empowers you to take control of your professional narrative, showcasing your unique skills, values, and expertise beyond the confines of any specific job role.Consider a software engineer who's passionate about diversity and inclusion. Instead of solely emphasizing their job title, they proactively share insights on inclusive tech practices, participate in panel discussions, and contribute thought leadership articles. By aligning their personal brand with their values, they become known as a champion for diversity in the tech industry. How has prioritizing personal branding over job titles impacted your career journey?
