MetLife Stadium is the biggest NFL stadium by capacity: 82,500. MetLife Stadium opened in 2010 and is located five miles west of New York City in East Rutherford, New Jersey. It's the home of the New York Giants and New York Jets.

MetLife Stadium hosted Super Bowl XLVIII and will host multiple matches during the 2026 FIFA World Cup, including the final. It is the largest stadium in New Jersey with a capacity of over 80,000.

Not only is MetLife Stadium the biggest venue in New York, but it is the biggest venue in the entire NFL. Holding over 80,000 people, MetLife is just one of three NFL venues to eclipse the 80,000 mark. The Super Bowl has never been played in New York City.

It's jointly owned by the two New York NFL franchises - the Giants & Jets (though it sits on land owned by the New Jersey Sports & Exposition Authority). They each have a 50% stake in the MetLife Stadium Company that runs the facility.

There is No Retractable-Roof.

It was originally named the New Meadowlands Stadium upon opening in 2010 but was the naming rights were acquired the next year by the New York Insurance company, MetLife. The stadium is owned by the MetLife stadium Company, joint venture of the Giants and Jets, and cost 1.6 billion to construct.

Having utilized an artificial turf called UBU Speed S5-M for the majority of its operating years, MetLife Stadium changed to FieldTurf Core HD before the 2023 NFL season. Though the surface was deemed to have more of a natural feel, it was not without its detractors.

The Giants and Jets shared Giants Stadium through the 2009 season before moving over a few feet to MetLife Stadium, a facility they built . In 1976 they moved to East Rutherford, New Jersey playing at Giants Stadium until 2010. Now, they play at Met.
